Mrs Heather Ogburn MBE

Heather Ogburn came to Plymouth with her husband, when he was posted to the city, and over the succeeding 33 years, she has worked in the field of education, becoming a senior education advisor for Plymouth City Council. Her focus throughout her years in Plymouth has been on developing and sustaining initiatives to help promotion of literacy and numeracy skills amongst local pupils, encouraging their enjoyment of and confidence in their skills in these areas. In 2008, she established the ongoing Plymouth Anthology of Children’s Writing, to showcase local talent and encourage creative writing amongst Plymouth’s children, working with the University of Plymouth. As part of this drive to invest in creating opportunities for local young people, she founded HMS Heroes, working with the children of those serving in the armed forces, to help them cope with the particular challenges such children can face. She is currently the Theme Lead for Children, Young People and Families at Plymouth Armed Forces Covenant, and was awarded an MBE in 2015, for her services to education.
